Beechcraft developed the Duchess from the single-engine Beechcraft Musketeer. The aircraft is a cantilever, low- wing monoplane with an all-metal structure, four seats, retractable tricycle undercarriage, and a T-tail. These engines drive counter-rotating, constant speed two-bladed propellers. The Duchess is powered by one 180hp Lycoming O-360-A1G6D on the left wing and one LO-360-A1G6D on the right wing. The rate of climb is 1248 ft/min (380.4 m/min). The cruise speed is 165 knots (190 mph) and maximum speed is 171 knots (197 mph).

The empty weight is 2446 lb (1100 kg) and the maximum takeoff weight is 3900 lb (1780 kg). The Duchess has the capacity for one crew member and three passengers (five with optional seating). The Beechcraft Model 76 Duchess is an American twin-engined monoplane.
